ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
UHA is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and future-ready Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the organization’s technology vision and execution. Reporting to the President & CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Team, the CIO will be responsible for developing and implementing UHA’s enterprise-wide IT strategy, with a focus on infrastructure, cybersecurity, data management, digital innovation, and vendor oversight. This is a pivotal leadership role that will shape how UHA leverages technology to deliver exceptional service to members, employers, providers, and brokers.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in health insurance or healthcare technology, with a proven ability to lead enterprise-wide digital transformation and align technology strategy with organizational goals. The CIO will manage UHA’s external technology partnerships while strategically assessing opportunities to build internal capabilities that enhance integration, performance, and long-term value. A deep understanding of cloud migration, data governance, and AI-driven innovation will be essential as UHA modernizes its systems and explores new ways to enhance service delivery. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and a hands-on operator, capable of building a multi-year roadmap, leading enterprise-wide change initiatives, and leading cross-functional teams through transformation.
This leader will also embody UHA’s “Twelve Characteristics and Competencies of a Better Leader,” which include humility, courage, transparency, ethical behavior, and a commitment to continuous learning and excellence. They will be expected to foster relationships across the organization, communicate with clarity, and lead change with balance and foresight. As UHA continues to evolve, the CIO will play a critical role in shaping the organization’s future, ensuring that technology not only supports but accelerates its mission to improve the health and well-being of Hawaiʻi’s people.
